Five Steps To Marketing Success On Facebook

Social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook have become almost universal in the past few years. You would be hard pressed to find someone who does not have an account on one of those sites (or both of them). Basically, you are nobody if you are not on Facebook. Many businesses have also discovered the benefits of these social networking sites. While this is a very unconventional marketing tool (unlike brochure printing or newsletter printing), it can still be wildly effective. Here are five ways to achieve marketing success on Facebook: 1. Register on Facebook Do not be afraid to make a Facebook profile for your business. It can’t hurt, right? Believe it or not, it can actually generate some respectable profits for your company. Many companies use their Facebook profiles as their only presence on the web. They do not have any websites listed on their brochure printings or newsletter printing, only their Facebook address. All you need to create a Facebook profile is some basic information, like an email address, name, and home (or business) address. You will also have to create a password in order to get access to your profile. Finally, upload a picture of yourself (or your company logo) that will be identifiable to others. After that, you are officially on Facebook! 2. Design Your Profile Although your profile will be active at this point, it will not be attractive. It almost certainly will not generate any sales for your company. You have to add additional details to your profile to make it worthwhile. There are many different categories to your profile, such as “Interests and Personality”, “Basic Info”, and “Networking”. Add as much information as you can to fill out your profile. And do not be afraid to talk up your business in these spaces. There is nothing that says that you can’t sell yourself while describing yourself! Also, there are literally thousands of sites out there that will provide free backgrounds to make your profile more aesthetically pleasing. Just do a web search for “Facebook backgrounds” and take your pick. 3. Make Some Friends Make a list of all the people you know, including friends, family members, and business associates. Search for each one of them using Facebook’s “Find Friends” function. Whenever you see a familiar face on Facebook, invite them to be your friend. And ask them to tell their friends about you. In the Facebook world, it’s all about how many people you know. 4. Join a Group When you sign up for Facebook, you have to join a network. This is usually based on your location. Once you are set up, though, you can join more networks. Join all the networks you can that include people from your area, or that might be interested in your product. Find one that pertains to your area of business, and sign up. Get as involved as you can in the group, by communicating with the other members of the network. 5. Make More Friends Try to become friends with every other member of your network(s). Again, ask them to spread the word, too. The more friends you add, the better your chances of success. It only takes an hour or so to set up a profile and begin your marketing campaign on Facebook. After that, you will have to devote some time to maintaining it, but not a whole lot. You may be surprised at the effectiveness of this type of social marketing.
