*The new H520 pouch laminator from GBC is designed for medium to large sized offices that need to laminate all sizes of documents.
*It is ideal for laminating signs, posters, menus, photographs, name badges, luggage tags, business cards and other types of items and runs at an amazing 31.5 inches per minute which is almost twice the speed of other similar laminators on the market.
*This review will identify some of the features, strengths, weaknesses and limitations of the Heatseal H520 pouch laminator.
Strengths / Features:
*The H520 is an extremely fast pouch laminator. Many lower end pouch laminators operate at speed between 12-15 inches per minute. This machine operates at a fixed speed of 31.5 inches per minute. This added speed will directly combined with the relatively short warm up time of the Heatseal 520 helps this machine to yield greater productivity for its users.
*The H520 is capable of laminating documents with 3mil, 5mil and 7mil laminating pouches. This gives users the ability to choose the thickness of laminating pouch that best suits their needs.
*The H520 has a large 12.5" throat. This allows users to laminate documents using menu and large menu sized laminating pouches. It also allows for increased productivity through the use of GBC premium long side sealed laminating pouches.
*The Heatseal H520 has a great LCD control panel that makes operating the machine extremely simple. Since the speed of the machine is fixed the LCD is simply used to control the temperature of the unit. A convenient guide is printed on the unit showing the correct settings for different thicknesses of paper using 3mil, 5mil and 7mil laminating pouches.
Weaknesses / Limitations:
*The GBC Heatseal H520 is a carrier free laminator. This means that it is not designed to laminate documents using laminating pouch carriers. Although this makes the H520 easier and faster to use than many other laminators that require carriers it also presents several problems. Over time adhesive can squeeze out of the laminating pouches as they run through the machine and build up on the rollers. This adhesive needs to be cleaned off on a regular basis or it can result in getting a laminating pouch wrapped around the rollers of the machine. This is not covered under the warranty for the H520 unless you use genuine GBC laminating pouches and regularly clean the unit using the provided adhesive cleaning sheet.
*The H520 is capable of laminating items with 3mil, 5mil and 7mil pouches. However, it can not be used with 10mil laminating pouches. This is something to keep in mind if your organization ever needs to laminate signs, name badges or other items that require a lot of rigidity.
Recommendation:
*The primary advantage that the GBC Heatseal H520 pouch laminator offers over other similar models is speed. This ultra quick laminator is designed with productivity in mind and is ideal for a small or medium sized company that needs to laminate both small and large documents.
*If you do decide to buy the H520 it is important to remember to regularly clean the rollers so that that adhesive does not build up.
*Unfortunately, the H520 does not handle 10mil laminating pouches. You have to step up the one of the larger more feature rich GBC Heatseal laminators for that.
