Preventive Maintenance Of Computers Software

Computers often break down at the worst of all times. These problems can be averted, or at least minimized with preventive maintenance. Several methods of keeping computer hardware in good working order deal with the external components of the computer, such as the keyboard and monitor. For example, it is important to keep the processor away from excess heat and moisture. There are also computer hardware preventive maintenance software programs that can help with the upkeep of other internal aspects of a computer. While it is rare to find a CMMS that works on all of a computers hardware, many different programs can be utilized simultaneously. Some computers have periodic automatic updates available that can be downloaded and used to improve the computers performance. Other software programs, known as disk defragmenters, manage hard drive space so that software programs take less time to access. Programs known as hardware diagnostic utilities can check the computers hardware components and alert the us er about any potential failures. Since some new hardware will not always work on all computers and could cause existing hardware to malfunction, it is important to have a CMMS program to ensure that the new hardware is compatible with existing hardware. Antivirus programs are another important component of computer hardware preventive maintenance software. Computer viruses have become increasingly common in recent years and can render a good computer useless. While computer viruses mainly attack software programs, they can ruin hardware as well. Several manufacturers make reliable antivirus software. A couple of well-known companies are Norton and McAfee. As with much preventive maintenance software, these programs are usually available for a free trial period before the user must pay a subscription fee. Computer hardware preventive maintenance software is necessary to keep computers in good working order. This software manages aspects of computer hardware that would be difficult and time-consuming f

The Past And Present Of Computers

Computer (computador) is an appliance which can manipulate data in accordance with a list of instructions. It is a type of data processing system. Today the computer (computador) has become indispensable in every household and comes in numerous physical forms. The first modern day computer was developed in the mid-20th century, though the concept of computer (computador) and various similar machines existed before. It actually started in 1837, when The Analytical Engine, the first fully programmable mechanical computer, was designed by Charles Babbage.

The New Age Of Computers

In the last few years, say about five, we have seen the growth of computers like never before. Though there was a lot of development over the years since its advent, there has been a big boom in this industry. This is mainly due to the money involved in this business. A lot of competitors came into the field, and they have brought it various computers to the worlds market. When computers were initially invented, they were massive, and a lot of operations were done manually. But now, there are computers that would fit into the palms of ones hand. A lot of companies have now stormed the market with new models. They are also of reasonable prices. Some years back, common man could not afford a fast machine.

Computers May Be Slowing Down

In 1965 Gordon Moore, the co-founder of Intel, wrote a paper that made the observation that computers will double in speed every two years. This maxim, now called Moores Law, has held true for decades. It would appear now however that within the next ten years Moores Law may no longer be valid. Moores Law specifically refers to the number of transistors that can be placed on a computer chip, and how that number could easily be doubled by manufacturers every two years. Manufactures have readily met the requirements of this law since its inception, and as of 2008 the transistors that are applied to computer chips will be so small that over 3.9 million of them would fit on the head of a pin.

Refurbished Computers Are Turning Green

Emissions of carbon dioxide help to trap heat within the Earths atmosphere that would normally be released into space. The result of this increased heat is called Global Warming if you are of the liberal persuasion and Dramatic Climate Change if you are conservative. The end result is the same; The Earth will continue to heat up where it should be cold, and cool off where it should be warm. This will be a mild inconvenience to most where it was warm, but the coldest areas such as the poles of the planet will see bigger change in the form of dumping massive amounts of ice into the ocean that will change the face of the planet. Computers are part of this larger problem. Power plants, cars and factories lead the charge in changing the global environment, as do air conditioners, coal pits and all of the usual suspects. The computer as it is now is a part of the problem. A personal computer can use between 150 and 600 watts of power, which isnt much compared to the damage of a coal pit but is a great deal more than a television or a CD player. A high end computer if left on constantly can add over 50 per month on an electric bill, and send hundreds of pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere over the course of a year.

Zombie Computers Roam The Internet

Spyware and viruses are so common that you would be hard pressed to find anyone that isnt aware of them. Under the umbrella term Malware, these little programs have been causing trouble for computer users for many years, and they seem to get more powerful everyday. A new incarnation of malware is becoming very common as of late, and it involves using a virus or trojan horse to place a computer under the remote control of a hacker. The controlled computer is referred to as a zombie and it is used to commit various dastardly deeds without the knowledge of the computer owner. Zombie computers are almost always attached to the Internet via a broadband connection such as DSL or Satellite Internet. This is important as spammers have found that by using zombie computers to send out their junk mail they can easily avoid detection. As of 2005 it was estimated that up to 80 of all spam was sent via zombie computers, and that number is on the rise.
