So you’ve been invited to a baby shower but have no idea what a new mother needs. There are hundreds of baby items available today and if you are unfamiliar with what they are and how they work shopping for a baby can be a little scary.
A personalized baby gift is a favorite. If you know the gender of the baby you can purchase a plush bath towel and wash cloth in either pink or blue and have it embroidered with either ‘baby boy last name’ or ‘baby girl last name’.
Baby clothing has always been a popular item to buy. The baby is going to need clothes. If you are going to buy clothes stay away from the newborn sizes. A new baby doesn’t need a whole bunch of clothes and most of the time is in a sleeper anyway. And they grow so fast, so buy clothing starting at 3 months of age.
If you want to do something a little more personal and unique why not make up a gift basket. Buy an empty wicker basket, and fill it with things the new mother is going to need. Baby wash clothes, wipes, baby lotion, baby oil, a few small toys for when the baby is a few months old. You can even put in a pack of newborn diapers. Add a sleeper and a onesie and you’re done.
Maybe you want to get something that is specific for a boy. You can stray away from the standard blue and go for something a little different. Why not get a little camouflage outfit, or a wild and crazy colored set of sheets for his crib.
Girl gifts seem to be easier to buy. You can’t walk through a baby department without seeing pink frilly dresses. There is no rule stating that because it’s a girl you have to buy pink.
Wander through the baby isle and you will see Sassy baby toys in every shape, color and size. Play around a bit and you will find that some of them make sounds. A baby can’t resist a toy that is just as noisy as or noisier than they are.
Nowadays, most new mother’s have a baby registry. She picks out the items that she wants and family members and friends can log onto what ever store she chooses. Whatever item or items that are still available to buy you can purchase and the store marks it off the list. By doing things this way you don’t have to wonder if what you bought will get used, and the new parents get the things they want and know they’ll use.
