There are three broad categories of drugs available as adhd child medicine, and there are as follows:
- Stimulant medications
- non stimulant medications
- anti depressants
The choice of drug actually used will differ according to and contingent on what symptoms are present, there are some general rules to observe regardless of the form of medication administered:
1. Know thy enemy, educate yourself about your child’s condition as well as the medications to treat it.
2. Make sure you distribute the medication under your own supervision, even the smallest alteration in the dosage can have a negative effect.
3. Medicines are not magical potions!!! They need time to adjust to the body and show its effects. Be patient with medicines, they are not miraculous cures, but rather, tools of treatment. Give time for the body to become acclimatized to the drugs.
4. Start the lowest dosage possible and slowly build up the dosage from then.
5. Be aware of any and all changes that occur with the child.
