My El Paso Probate Experience

I'm not sure what the system is like in other states, but here in Texas, probate is fairly uncomplicated, especially when you have the aid of a good attorney. Granted, I wouldn't exactly refer to settling the estate of a loved one as "a good time," but having help from an excellent El Paso probate lawyer certainly added an element of smoothness and efficiency to the whole process. Because let's face it, it's hard enough getting through the grief itself without tacking on all of the logistics of death--hospital bills, funerals, the gathering of family, and all of the other events that have to take place when you're picking up the pieces after a death. Estate settlement can be one of the hardest parts of losing someone close, but in my case, it turned out to be one of the easiest once I decided to hire the El Paso probate lawyer that my friend had recommended to me. My father had not made any arrangements for his estate prior to his death, despite our attempts to coerce him. His distaste for lawyers always got in the way of his desire to make things easier on his family. Luckily, he did have a will which was validated by the court. This saved us from having to have the court determine the "heirs of law," which could have really screwed things up as far as what each of us were supposed to receive. You see, my father always made it very clear to us how he wanted to leave things behind in this life, he just never chose to make it legal. The distribution of assets has always been cut and dry in our family. Since our father refused to work with an El Paso wills lawyer, he made up for it by telling us who would have what and writing it down on a yellow legal pad. All we needed was for the court to make this a hassle for us, but thankfully, the heirs of law were just who they were supposed to be--the beneficiaries of my father's hand-written will. Now, I realize my story is a fairy tale compared to some of the nightmares people have experienced during the probate process, but again, if you hire a good lawyer it will go quicker and smoother so you can get back to doing the things you need to do to cope with the loss. Do yourself a favor--avoid the added stress and pain of dealing with all the technicalities and problems that can come with estate settlement. Confusing paperwork and legalese do nothing for your mental or physical wellbeing when recovering from the death of a loved one. Simply put, it's bad for your health to have to get caught up in unnecessary settlement disputes brought on as a result of red tape entanglement. My El Paso wills lawyer softened this whole process for me, allowing me to preserve the time and energy that I needed to heal and help my family do the same.
