How Do You Begin In Television Production

So many times, people have asked the same question, "What is the best way to get started in television production"? And here is my standard answer. If you are serious about television production, go online and find the net address, telephone and location of your nearest public access or community access television station. Once you locate that, apply at the station to become an intern there. If you are qualified you will be hired as an intern--usually with no pay. Depending on your location, you might receive a stipend. Let's say you do not qualify as an intern. Next step, just go to the station and ask to attend an orientation and say that you want to sign up for classes there. Once you sign up, you go to classes. Once you are graduated from the classes, usually that gives you access to use their equipment at the studio or to use their equipment outdoors in the field. (You decide, before taking any classes, if you want to take studio or field classes). For beginners, I recommend the field classes. This gives you opportunity to get to know everyone and it gets you started. After that you can take the studio classes and you are in business. It is easy to get started in television if that is what you really want to do. All you need to do is decide.
