Preparing For An Online Degree Program

The prospect of entering (or returning) to college can be a daunting challenge for most any adult, bringing anxiety and nervousness. From personal experience, I can attest that these feelings are compounded based on a fear of unknown circumstances and unfamiliar surroundings associated with online degree programs. Committing to the pursuit or completion of a degree via an online program is a significant first-step, but there are several preparations you can take that can increase the chances for success and alleviate the preparatory anxiety. First, if you have not already done so, begin familiarizing yourself with key productivity and online applications. Most of the schools offering online degree programs require the use of software currently in use (and accepted as standard in the personal and business computing environment). Microsoft Office applications are some of the most common applications in use, though compatibility improvements between applications will allow the use other software products if you so desire. Access to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is also an essential tool; I would suggest that you use a high-speed Internet connection if at all possible, as this will improve connectivity and minimize the time spent in downloading course materials and uploading assignments. You should have at least one email account through your ISP. From personal experience, I would suggest establishing a separate email account for school-related correspondence, as this will prevent inbox clutter and ensure that critical school-related

Starting A New Degree Or Certification Program Through Online Education

If you are considering pursing a college degree or in need of additional certification, check out the available programs through online education. Pursuing a degree online can ease much tension and apprehension that might be hindering your return. You may have heard some myths about distance education; however, the truth is an online degree is just as effective as a brick and mortar degree. In fact, you can earn the very same degree in a shorter period of time if you pursue it online. First, you need to identify which online degree program or online certification program you are interested in. Do you have a passion for something in particular? While certain programs are not offered online (i.e. nursing, human services), distance learning can still allow you to take several core classes online that will count toward your overall degree. Core classes are classes that everyone has to take regardless of their program.

Is Your Online Education Legitimate? How To Spot A Credible Online Degree Program

Educational professionals and employers have long challenged the credibility of online college degrees. Traditionalists are quick to dismiss them as easy, widely fuelling the belief that online college degrees are worthless. Employers, as a result, have jumped on the bandwagon and have been known to reject potential employees on the strength of it, stating that they do not meet the specified criteria. However, accredited online colleges and universities have been fighting this perspective with a degree of success and guidelines have been published so that individuals can distinguish between credible online college degrees and their bogus equivalents. Here is a quick guide on what to look out for. Accredited Colleges And Universities The safest way of ensuring that your online college degree will be taken into account when you apply for jobs is by choosing to take one with a well-known university that is established offline. The University Of Carolina or Stanford University are just two that are established universities offering online college degrees. If you present a degree from accredited online colleges and universities that already provide excellent educational courses then it will undoubtedly be taken into considerations. Although accredited online colleges and universities that operate solely on the Internet may be legitimate, employers may dismiss your degree as being fake on the basis that they have never heard of them.
Boston Schools Benefit From The Readboston Program

Literacy is a problem across the nation; and with the influx of many poorly educated immigrants, the problem is only getting worse. The city of Boston has done something about it, and partners with the Boston schools for one phase of its implementation. In 1995, Mayor Thomas M. Menino founded the ReadBoston project to address the low literacy levels of the citys youth. The projects goal is to have all children in Boston schools reading on grade level by the completion of third grade.

Spotlight On Success Program To Benefit Arizona Schools

For many years, the Arizona schools have experienced a lot of negative publicity that affects its ability to recruit talent, garner extra funding, and keep students in the public school system. Current superintendent Tom Horne says that much of this publicity is unwarranted and unfair to the Arizona schools that have made many positive strides toward improving education. To counter this unwanted publicity, Horne developed the Spotlight on Success program for the Arizona schools. Basically, the program works to put as much positive publicity about the Arizona schools into the public spotlight as possible. The superintendent, himself, seeks as many opportunities available for public speaking and voicing his opinions and facts about the Arizona schools to the media. His goal is to emphasize the positive inroads Arizona schools have made both in his public statements and when quoted in the media, and he to refutes any false negative publicity with ruthless tenacity.
